The Catalonian writer Mercè Rodoreda is responsible for the Plaça del Diamant becoming a part of the city's current, collective imagination. The novel of the same name is set in post-war Barcelona and tells the story of the winsome protagonist, La Colometa. Rodoreda's novel has been translated into a number of languages and has been adapted for the screen, stage and television.
