Walking around Barcelona, you have probably come across several Bicing stations. Row upon row of red and white public bicycles strategically placed throughout the city. Bicing is a wonderful new form of public transport, designed to connect short trajectories that are not serviced by bus or metro lines. It's also a great way to keep in shape and contribute to making the city a cleaner and more environmentally-friendly place.

Bicing is a service exclusively reserved for Barcelona residents. In order to use the city bicycles, you need to register online at www.bicing.com, using a valid Barcelona address, a credit card and your NIE (number issued to foreign residents by the government).

The yearly pass costs 24€ and gives registered members access to the bicycles as often as necessary. However, you should keep in mind that the bikes are intended as a means of transport and not a leisure vehicle. Each bicycle ride should not exceed 30 minutes. If you keep the bike longer than the time allotted, you are charged 0.30€ for each additional 30 minutes.

The Bicing service is available every day of the week. Sunday through Thursday the bicycles can be taken out between 5am and midnight, while on Fridays and Saturdays the service is open 24 hours a day.

By summer 2008, the city hopes to have 6,000 bicycles in circulation and stations in outlying areas like the Fòrum/Diagonal Mar. Please visit the Bicing website for more information.
