Although the Catalan region is not considered the heartland of Flamenco, there is in fact plenty of local history and tradition, which in particular lead to the development of the "Rumba Catalana" style of playing.
Several well known venues offer shows on a regular basis. In the center of the Gothic quarter, in Plaza Real, one of the oldest Flamenco houses is Tarantos (Group Mas i Mas - Tel +34 93 319 1789) which has been running since 1963.
In the Ramblas 35, established in 1970, is the Tablao Cordobes (+34 93 317 5711), with 3 shows every evening, which include a buffet dinner. The dinner is served separately to the show which is held in a more theatre hall type of setting.
The Tablao de Carmen (+34 93 325 6895) is situated in a place of interest in its right - Poble Espanyol - located near the Fira and Plaza España on Montjuic Hill. The Poble Espanyol is a "village" which is composed of buildings recreated in replica of famous buildings from around Spain. The Tablao was opened in 1988 and is a charming setting to enjoy a pleasant evening. There are 2 shows per night, and each one offers dining options. The meals are served at the tables at the same time as the show, giving a more relaxed eperience on the whole. Non-dining options are also available.
The newcomer to the show is the Palacio de Flamenco (Calle Balmes 139 / +34 93 218 72 37) which was refurbished in 2006 and re-opened as a Flamenco venue, now offering some of the best Flamenco in Barcelona in what is perhaps the most impressive venue of those available. Centrally located and very stylishly refurbished, the Palacio offers options with and without meals, which like the Tablao de Carmen, are served during the 2 shows performed each evening. There are different menus which are themsleves surprisingly good, as the groups has its own catering arm, and is therefore understandably strong in that department.
