This independent, non-profitmaking cultural institution consists of more than 1,500 professionals working in design, architecture and other creative fields. The goal of the institution is to promote these disciplines within the country's cultural and economic arenas.

Founded in 1903, the design centre has become a primary reference point for architecture and design in Barcelona. It is located in the heart of the city, in the Raval neighbourhood, close to the emblematic Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona (MACBA).

The centre occupies a former convent, a 16th century building that was skilfully renovated in 1999 by the architects Lluís Clotet and Ignacio Paricio. It has several spaces that are available to groups and companies for cultural and social events. These unique spaces are marked by the contrast of the solid stone walls, the vaulted ceilings of the two Gothic naves and the cutting-edge facilities, equipped with all of the latest technology.

AVAILABLE SPACES:

The Gallery is a unique 47m2 urban showcase, directly in front of one of the city's iconic buildings, the Richard Meier designed MACBA. This space provides an excellent opportunity for companies that wish to show their latest products in a visually attractive and strategically located place.

The Forum is an unusual, multipurpose area, which combines an exhibition hall, the reception and a restaurant. This hall features 90m2 of wall space and a plasma screen.

The terrace is an exterior space, ideal for lunches, performances, parties and other outdoor activities. It can be accessed directly from the Exhibition Hall and leads out to the Plaça de les Caramelles - a lovely space in which to take full advantage of the excellent Mediterranean climate.
CAPACITY: 60 people

The walls and vaulted ceilings in the Exhibition Hall combine historic beauty with the convenience of modern technology.  This space is one of the most beautiful examples of Gothic architecture in Barcelona, characterised by a simple and understated elegance. This 320m2 hall has close to 150m2 of wall space for larger exhibitions.

The Crypt is the centre's newest exhibition space. This small gallery was once the convent’s crypt and can be accessed from the Forum via a narrow staircase. The choice of red and white as the predominant colour scheme breaks with the room’s otherwise solemn character. It was completely redesigned by the architectural studio XNF in 2003. The room adjacent to the Crypt can be used for projections/screenings.

The Auditorium is about 300m2 in size and located on the first floor of the convent. The room's open-plan design makes it a very flexible space, allowing for a variety of different seating arrangements. The Auditorium is perfect for press conferences, congresses and conventions, lectures and even fashion shows. From a technical standpoint, the hall is more than well-equipped: multimedia video projector and screen, ADSL connection, VCR, DVD player, press box and more.
CAPACITY: 150 people

The Guinovart Halls on the second floor offer an original and select setting in which to hold small-scale meetings (up to 20 people). These rooms are equipped with a telephone, ADSL connection and other services.

The centre can also organise optional press and photographic services. Complementary cleaning, security and technical (audio) services are also available.
