Even after living in this city for many years, one still discovers new and hidden treasures in the Gothic Quarter...a visitor might therefore find navigating the maze of narrow streets quite a challenge. And if you want to add a few tapas and drinks to the mix, the expedition becomes even more complicated (particularly if you want to avoid the obvious tourist traps along Las Ramblas). We've put together a little exploration of the Gothic Quarter that takes you to some charming, historical spots with tasty tapas along the way. And to make your stroll through this legendary, medieval neighbourhood more fun and hassle-free, one of our local experts will accompany your group to answer questions, make recommendations, share interesting anecdotes and help you find your way around.

Some of the fantastic places you can see on this tour:

Everyone loves Gaudí, but Catalonia's club of illustrious architects includes many others. For example, Lluis Domenech i Montaner, the genius behind the Palau de la Música, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where we'll stop for a little architecture appreciation and some delicious montaditos, bite size slices of bread with a variety of delicious toppings.

The area around the Cathedral is full of hidden gardens and courtyards. We'll explore the Gothic marvel's many secrets and, depending on the season, stop at a beautiful courtyard full of orange trees and with a picturesque view of the Cathedral's main spire. A wonderful chance to soak up the historic ambiance while sipping a glass of chilled cava (Catalan sparkling wine).

The tour continues through the old Jewish Quarter, down winding side streets with stops at Plaça Sant Jaume (the city's administrative and political centre), the Cathedral, the ruins of a Roman temple, the Palau Lloctinent, Plaça del Rei and classic bars awash with old-world charm, wrought iron details, tile work and polished bronze where you can try some typical tapas.

Depending on the time of day, we can also stop in at Barcelona's most famous market, the Mercat de la Boqueria. This modernist masterpiece on Las Ramblas occupies a site that has housed a market since the 13th century. Our stop is a dream come true for meat lovers, who can nibble on a variety of hams and sausages (if there are vegetarians in your group, please let us know so that we can arrange an alternative).

As you can see, our trip through the Gothic Quarter is a feast for more than just the palate! Despite being covered a thousand times over in guidebooks, the city's oldest district still has plenty of secrets awaiting discovery.
