 Las Ramblas is the busiest and most popular avenue in Barcelona, attracting an even mix of tourists and locals. It is lined with trees and stretches 1.2 km from Plaça Catalunya all the way down to the Christopher Colombus monument where the harbour starts. On either side, it is flanked by two of the old town's historic neighbourhoods, El Raval and El Gótico, both filled with narrow, winding streets.
In addition to several museums, the main attractions of Las Ramblas are the Canaletes fountain, which represents a historical symbol for FC Barcelona fans, the flower stalls that brighten the promenade with gorgeous colours, and the covered food market of La Boqueria, where you can find fresh produce, juices and more. The café terraces are a great spot for people-watching and a snack (albeit quite touristy and often correspondingly pricey), and the streets leading off Las Ramblas offer a variety of bars and restaurants to choose from.

Amongst the many luxuries Barcelona residents enjoy, having the beach right in the city is definitely near the top of the list. The sandy beaches of the Catalan capital stretch approximately 4km along the coast and are only 10 minutes from the city centre. The most famous of Barcelona's beaches is La Barceloneta, which runs along the seafront of the old fishing district, where you can still find the best seafood restaurants and beach bars in town.
From as early as April through November, beach bars known as xiringuitos pop up on the sand – the perfect spot for taking it easy and enjoying a cocktail, some snacks and music throughout the day until late.
