Some museums with a special interest for children include:


Museu Marítim (Maritime Museum)

Situated at the bottom of Las Ramblas, in the most important civilian gothic building in the world. A unique museum outstanding not only for what it displays but also for the way it displays. Houses an extensive range of nautical treasures including model ships, instruments, maps and charts. The virtual reality exhibition Sea Adventure, in all major European languages, lets visitors imagine life as a galley slave on the Don Juan of Austria, stride the stormy decks of a Cuban-bound corvette and experience what it would have been like in the bowels of the first submarine in history . Museo de Xocolata - Chocolate Museum

Antiguo Convento de San Agustin Comerç, 36. Nearest metro Jaime 1 (L4). Here you can learn all about the joys of chocolate, from it´s origins to it´s medicinal, nutritional &aphrodisiac properties. Admission 3.6 euros.

Museu d'Història de Catalunya. Museum of the History of Catalonia . http://www.museuhistoria.bcn.es A museum which traces Barcelona back to it´s earlist Roman foundations. There is an interactive voyage through Catalonia´s history( Tel 93 225 4700)

Museu de Cera (Wax Museum)

Located in Passatge de la Banca,7. Just off the bottom of Las Ramblas. Open Mon-Fri 10.00 to 13.30 & then 16-19.30. Sat, Sun & Hols 11-14 & 16.30 to 20.30.Adults entrance fee 6.65 euros, children from 5-11=3.75 euros.

Museu de la Ciència CosmoCaixa (Science Museum)

A very good museum with lots of interactive displays. Open Tues - Sun 10.00-20.00, address: Teodor Roviralta 55, Sarria, St Gervasi. 93 212 6050.

Planetarium in the Science Museum Tel 932 126 050, . Shows Tues-Fri at 1pm & 6pm , Sat & Sun every hour 10.30am-6.30pm.

Museu de Zoología (Zoology Museum)

Located in the Parc de Ciutadella, in a beautiful modernist building designed by Lluis Doménech i Montaner. The ground floor is dominated by a magnificent skeleton on a whale. Entry 3 euros, Open Tues-Thurs 10.00-14:00, Fri-Sun10:00 -18.30. Metro: arc de Triomf (L1or L2) Tel 93: 3196912.

Poble Espanyol

Open-air "museum" of Spanish different architectural styles that have developed over the centuries. This is a lovely place to walk around and spend time, there are many craft and gift shops, bars and restaurants. Nearest metro: Plaza Espanya (L1, L3 & FGC)
